View of the Gulf of Naples
They say: “See Naples and then die,” meaning you cannot miss visiting Naples in your lifetime. The city of the world’s most famous song “O Sole Mio,” with the Gulf of Naples in the background and the sea reflecting the great panoramic villas of the 17th and 18th centuries perched on Posillipo, its castles on the sea and hills, and the many monumental places and works of art to visit, is a welcoming, cheerful city and the birthplace of famous foods like pizza and babà. It is a unique city that stays in the heart.
Naples can be seen from various points of view, such as by climbing the Vomero hill and reaching Castel Sant’Elmo, perhaps by taking the funicular. Next to it is the Certosa di San Martino and the viewpoint from which it takes its name.

Si può guardare Napoli dall’alto da diversi punti, ad esempio salendo la collina del Vomero e arrivando al Castel Sant’Elmo, magari con la funicolare. Accanto si trova la Certosa di San Martino e il belvedere dal quale prende il nome.Quando si arriva in cima, a circa 250 metri sul livello del mare, si vede il Vesuvio che si staglia sullo sfondo del golfo, con le barche ormeggiate nel porto di Margellina, Castel dell’Ovo che si allunga sul mare, il centro storico, piazza del Plebiscito e Spaccanapoli, la via che divideva in due la città.
La canzone “Angelo Vero” di Pino Daniele, uno tra i più amati cantautori blues di Napoli, dice: “da San Martino vedi tutta quanta la città col mondo in tasca e senza dirsi una parola…”.
